Posting Via BlackBerry

August 11, 2008

Another annoying thing about the BlackBerry? The internet pages show up weird, so if you want to look at anything more complicated than Google, you have to decipher the way the page gets squished onto the small screen.

So I’m switching to the iPhone, and by necessity, AT&T. I’ve never really had any problems with Verizon, but they don’t have the iPhone, so…

In other, more interesting news, Vlada and I saw The Band From TV on Saturday night, featuring drums by Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman on Heroes), James Denton (Mike Delfino, Desperate Housewives) on guitar, Jesse Spencer (Robert Chase, House) on the electric violin, Bob Guiney (Date My House, apparently) on vocals, and Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli, Heroes) playing it cool on bass, I think – sadly I lack the ability to tell the difference between a guitar and a bass.  The electric violin is not an instrument I’m particularly fond of, but Jesse Spencer sure can jam.  Their ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’ was just insane.  The Band was joined at various points during the concert by Jorge Garcia (Hugo “Hurley” Reyes on Lost) who rocked the house with ‘Mustang Sally,’  Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives), bringing back memories from her American Idol Gives Back performance with Carrie Underwood’s ‘Before He Cheats,’ Zachary Levi (Chuck Bartowski on Chuck) crooning on ‘The Letter,’ and the incomprable Hugh Laurie (Gregory House on House) on keyboard who also sang ‘Such a Night.’ (Thanks to the Band from TV livejournal group for the song list.) Loads of fun, and a great free concert that supports many different charities.

A bunch of horribly blurry pictures taken on my phone:

I didn’t get one decent shot of Greg Grunberg.

Afterwards, courtesy of Netflix, they screened several episodes of classic television, including Schoolhouse Rock so I could learn how a bill becomes a law.  We watched a cowboy themed episode of the Muppet Show, then an episode of Mary Tyler Moore, which despite my love of TVLand, I’d never actually seen.

Quote of the Day:

How did Band From TV start?
I was on the Dating Game, believe it or not, and met a former child actor named Brad Savage. He plays bass, and we played with another buddy of his and over the years, it turned into a portion of Band From TV. These are really good musicians, yet they all have day jobs, like Brad is a trailer movie editor for Universal. I was asked to play at a Guitar Center event, and I said let’s get some celebrities behind it. I had just done House, and I asked Hugh Laurie if he wanted to play. Then I did a charity event with James Denton, and he’s such a great guy. Then I met Bob Guiney at a charity event. Then actor Elon Gold introduced us to Bonnie Sommerville. Everyone brings their own flavor of music. – Greg Grunberg

Link of the Day: The Band from TV – the site hasn’t been updated in a while from the looks of it, but the list of performance dates is current.  Check them out!  They also have a MySpace page.
